Plant species: Monstera siltepecana

Plant genus: Monstera

Plant family: Araceae

Native range: Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Gulf of Mexico, Southeast and Southwest Mexico

The natural habitat of this species is southern Mexico to Central America. It is a climbing plant and primarily grows in the wet tropical biome.

Soil drainage: Well-drained; we recommend a substrate mix composed of coco coir, perlite, vermiculite, sphagnum moss, and pumice.

Soil pH: Acidic

Fertilizers: Monstera siltepecana requires minerals in the substrate, so we recommend using a bio-type fertilizer (we use the BioBizz brand for the plants we cultivate) from early March to late November.

Air humidity: It thrives best at 60-70% humidity, but it can also do well in environments with lower humidity, down to 40%.

Temperature: 18-29 degrees Celsius

Light: Bright indirect light

Plant height including pot: 10-15cm

Pot diameter: 7x7cm

Monstera siltepecana is a distinctive species. The remarkable features of specimens grown in their natural environment include numerous leaf perforations in multiple series, reticulate secondary venation, a spathe that is pink inside, and thick, dark green fruiting spadices.

Attention! To check the moisture level of the substrate, inserting a finger into the pot to a depth of 2 cm is the best method to measure soil moisture. If the substrate feels wet, withhold watering for one to two days; if it feels dry, water it.

Attention 2! When watering, consider the size of the pot, the amount of substrate, and its aeration. Avoid pouring a liter of water into a pot with a diameter and height of 12 cm, as this may drown the plant roots. It's best to drain excess water from the saucer half an hour after watering.

The plant can be mounted on a support pole wrapped in coconut fiber, allowing aerial roots to attach and resulting in a stronger stem and larger leaves. Alternatively, if you prefer the aesthetic of trailing plants, you can let it grow without support and clip the vines to walls as they lengthen using special clips.

Good luck with caring for it! And don't forget to give us updates about your plant using the hashtag #greenmirrors and tag @green.mirrors in your Instagram posts! We promise to share them in our stories.
