Species: Philodendron erubescens
Cultivar: Philodendron erubescens 'White Princess"
Plant Genus: Philodendron
Plant Family: Araceae
Plant Origin: Colombia
Soil Drainage: Moist and well-draining, we recommend a substrate mix composed of coco coir, perlite, vermiculite, sphagnum moss, and pumice
Soil pH: Acidic
Fertilizers: Philodendron 'White Princess' is a plant with moderate fertilizer needs. However, for the plant's optimal development, we recommend using a bio fertilizer (we use the BioBizz brand for the plants we cultivate) from the beginning of March until the end of November.
Air Humidity: It is a plant perfectly adapted to indoor spaces, developing very well in air humidity starting from 40%.
Temperature: 18-29 degrees Celsius
Light: Full indirect light
Plant Height with Pot: 20-25cm
Pot Diameter: 9X9cm
Philodendron erubescens is one of the oldest species of Philodendron, first documented in Index Seminum (B, Berolinensis) 1854 (App.): 6, in 1855.
'White Princess' is a spectacular cultivar (we know we use powerful epithets seemingly without measure and that all plants seem spectacular to us, but swear that they are in real life, not just praised by us here), with heart-shaped leaves, glossy texture, and a unique white variegation pattern, sometimes throwing intense pink spots, originating from a climbing stem that develops aerial roots with which it will cling to the vertical support (moss pole).
Philodendron 'White Princess' is quite similar in terms of foliage to its siblings - Philodendron 'White Knight' and Philodendron 'White Wizzard", the main differentiating factor being at the stem level.
So:
Philodendron erubescens 'White Princess' is one of the easiest plants to care for, making it a perfect choice for beginners in the world of plants.
Due to its very good growth rate, it will need a supporting pole, dressed in coconut fiber or moss.
It is a very easy plant to maintain; the ideal growing conditions involve an air humidity of 40% +.
Philodendron 'White Princess' loves full indirect light (east-facing windows are the best options) and a substrate watered when the top two cm have dried out.
Note! To check the humidity level of the substrate, the finger inserted into the pot at a depth of 2 cm is the best device for measuring soil moisture.
So, if you feel the substrate is wet, keep the spray away from it for a day or two, and if it feels dry, water it.
Note 2! When talking about watering, we must consider the pot in which the plant is planted, as well as the amount of substrate and its degree of aeration. That is, we do not pour a liter of water into a pot with a diameter and height of 12 cm, because we drown the plant's roots. It is best to throw away the excess water from the collector pot, half an hour after watering.
The plant should be mounted on a support pole dressed in coconut fiber or moss, in which case the aerial roots will cling to this support, resulting in a plant with a more vigorous stem and increasingly larger leaves.
Good luck with caring for it! And don't forget to give us updates about your plant, using the hashtag #greenmirrors and tagging @green.mirrors in your Instagram posts! We promise to share them in stories ☺
