Plant Species: Begonia negrosensis

Plant Genus: Begonia

Plant Family: Begoniaceae

Native Plant: Begonia negrosensis endemic to Negros Island, Philippines

Soil Drainage: High water retention; we recommend a substrate mix of organic matter, perlite, vermiculite, and sphagnum moss.

!Attention: The substrate should remain consistently moist but not excessively wet to avoid root rot.

Soil pH: Acidic

Fertilizers: Begonias generally do not require frequent fertilization since the substrate contains organic matter. Fertilizer should be diluted to prevent root burn.

Air Humidity: Optimal plant development requires a high humidity level ranging from 70% to 80%. Green Mirrors recommends maintaining ideal conditions to prevent leaf melting. The plant can be placed in a terrarium, display case, or under a glass dome to avoid temperature and humidity fluctuations, but it can also acclimate to a room with humidity over 65%.

Temperature: 18-30 degrees Celsius

Light: Indirect to shaded light

Pot Height with Plant: 15 - 20 cm

Begonia negrosensis has asymmetric dark green to black leaves with pink spots, with colors intensifying under strong light. It grows in a bushy pattern and can reach a height of 30 cm, with mature leaves reaching up to 15 cm in length characterized by pink spotted patterns contrasting with the dark green of the rest of the leaf. Begonia negrosensis is a botanical species, therefore, it has higher humidity needs compared to hybrids.

Best of luck with caring for it! And don't forget to give us updates about your plant using the hashtag #greenmirrors and tag @green.mirrors in your Instagram posts! We promise to share them in stories.
